Virtusphere compatibility with software applications Potentially Virtusphere allows a user to walk and move within any 3D space. Practically, the technology allows adopting existing and newly created 3D software applications for use with Virtusphere. VRPN open source software may be used for adaptation of software for use with Virtusphere. We distinguish the degrees of adaptation of applications into 2 categories: light and deep. Light adaptation is implemented using a Virtual Game Controller (VGC) which collects the data from user’s movement inside the Virtusphere and communicates it to the application (similar to the way data is collected from regular mouse and keyboard). The application works in normal mode without any modifications. `Deep adaptation requires an integration of a small patch into the application, through which the data collected from a user's movement goes directly to the engine’s virtual camera control unit. With this style of adaptation, an application runs faster and more accurately. For example, the third rotation axis (right-left tilt) may be activated within an application, which is not possible with a regular mouse. You can also separate the hand (weapon) rotation from the head rotation (in comparison; when a regular mouse is used, the aim is always fixed at the center of the screen). That means that the whole spectrum of new opportunities for the use of applications emerges. A programmer with access to software application source can integrate this adapting patch into that application software.
